Date: 1300-1400; Language: Old French; Origin: cabane, from Old Provençal cabana 'small wooden building', from Medieval Latin capanna.

A beach hut (also known as a beach cabin, beach box or bathing box) is a small, usually wooden and often brightly coloured, box above the high tide mark on popular bathing beaches.

A log cabin is a small log house, especially a less finished or architecturally sophisticated structure. Log cabins have an ancient history in Europe, and in America are often associated with first generation home building by settlers.

The holiday cottage exists in many cultures under different names. In American English, "cottage" is one term for such holiday homes, although they may also be called a "cabin", "chalet", or even "camp".

A cabin or berthing is an enclosed space generally on a ship or an aircraft. A cabin which protrudes above the level of a ship's deck may be referred to as a deckhouse. In most modern warships, the commanding officer has a main cabin—the in-port cabin, often adjacent to the ship's central control room (operations room)—and a sea cabin adjacent to the bridge. 舰桥这个名称来源于明轮蒸汽机船时期,那时,操纵部位设在左右舷明轮护罩间的过桥上 [百科]。

A cabin cruiser is a type of power boat that provides accommodation for its crew and passengers inside the structure of the craft. A cabin cruiser usually ranges in size from 7.6 to 13.7 m (25 to 45 ft) in length, with larger pleasure craft usually considered yachts.

In spacecraft, cabins are required to fully supply food and oxygen for their crew. On missions lasting a year or longer, the cabins have to be self-sustaining, i.e. replenish their own water and oxygen. The space cabin for any long-range manned mission is expected to be reasonably spacious, with approximately 28 cubic metres allotted to each occupant. In addition, cabins have life support systems that should have the capability to meet a variety of off-nominal conditions, including cabin fires, depressurization, and component shutdown or failure.

Cabin fever refers to the distressing claustrophobic irritability or restlessness experienced when a person, or group, is stuck at an isolated location or in confined quarters for an extended time. A person may be referred to as stir-crazy, derived from the use of stir meaning "prison".

Tomahawk rights — or tomahawk claims, also called cabin rights — were an informal process utilized by early white settlers of the Appalachian and Old Northwest (Ohio, Michigan, etc) frontiers in the mid- to late 18th century to establish priority of ownership to newly occupied land. The claimant typically girdled several trees near the head of a spring or other prominent site, then blazed the bark of one or more of them with his initials or name. Land bounties had been promised by colonial officials to all those who had served in the provincial forces during the French and Indian War (1754-63), but for those who could not qualify for such bounties, the practice grew up on the Pennsylvania and Virginia frontiers of taking possession of unoccupied land without authority and establishing "tomahawk claims" which were widely respected among the earliest pioneers.
