Sense of "dominate, direct, exercise control over" is from mid-15c. Related: Controlled; controlling. Control group in scientific experiments is attested from 1952 (from a sense of control attested since 1875).
Control group is the standard to which comparisons are made in an experiment. Many experiments are designed to include a control group and one or more experimental groups; in fact, some scholars reserve the term experiment for study designs that include a control group.
The Microsoft Windows Control Panel is a management tool for the Windows operating system (OS) that allows end users to change settings and manage tasks within the OS. Some of the system items found in the Control Panel are extensible. To install a Control Panel extension, register your Shell extension as follows, where name is the predefined name of the system item (see table below link).
In Windows 8, Microsoft introduced the modern UI Settings app, meaning to replace the old Control Panel. But till now, you still can find Control Panel in Windows 11 Insider preview build. It is not the best time to replace it now because you need to rely on Control Panel to change some advanced settings like power profiles.
